MP Ali Ashraf, an Awami League lawmaker from Cumilla and a former deputy speaker, passed away at a city hospital at the age of 73 on Friday.
He was on life support in Dhaka’s Square Hospital and breathed his last around 4:00 pm today, family sources confirmed.
He had been suffering from different old age-related complications and diabetes for a while.
He was admitted to Square Hospital on Jul 10 and was subsequently moved into intensive care as his condition deteriorated. He was later placed on life suport on Jul 21.
The Cumilla-7 MP was also the president of the parliamentary committee on government assurances.
